After becoming the 1988 College World Series runners-up, Wichita State baseball was the talk of the sport in 1989. With a team of future pros, the team amassed a 24-game win streak during the regular season and were poised for the postseason ahead. The No. 4-seed Shockers overcame near-elimination in the 1989 College World Series, defeating No. 1-seed Florida State twice to play (and beat) Texas, earning the school’s first-ever team national championship.
